Self portrait sketch Overall, I found it very challenging to do the self portrait task as it had been a long time since I attempted more realistic sketching than abstract but it has encouraged me to try and improve on this skill more this year through various activities such as joining life drawing classes and practicing portraits more at home . One thing which I think has worked well in this drawng is the basic proportions are accurate to the photo refrence as I used the gridding method , im also happy with some of the shading and tone. However I think overall if I wanted to improve this piece I would need to spend more time on details to the face and hair and clothes in order to improve . Another thing that I liked relating to this activity was participating in the Padlet board feedback . ( Padlet board ) It was very interesting to see everyone elses sketches and helped me realise they can also be abstract and creative for this task , I was also abl...

Visual Mindmap This mindmap acted as a way of generating ideas around the new project with connections to ideas about self-image and how you see yourself while keeping it mainly visual and expressive through my drawings. I wanted the overall structure of the page to be quite messy like myself but keeping the mindmap structure in place loosely by adding a rough abstract sketch of myself in the centre as a starting point. To develop the mindmap further I wrote some questions that were prompted by the project brief video slides such as 'how do you want to be perceived? ' or listed keywords linked to my hobbies and interests such as fashion, design, photography. As I went around the page I continue to add both words and images connected to my ideas. Overall this task was quite enjoyable as mindmaps help me to generate ideas and it was fun to add drawings related to myself such as flags and mini drawings of me doing various activities. However, to improve this task I w...

Uijung Kim Uijung Kim is a South Korean illustrator whos work draws inspiration from her childhood, family, friends and life experiences. This helps to create a variety of illustrations that are varied with emotion and creative scenery Kims work has also been recognized by companies such as American Illustration and The Society of Illustrators. I really like this artist's use of colour as the bold lines and bright choices complement the happy emotions and fit with the cute cartoon style-personally this interests me as I would like to work on using more cartoon styles in my own work and may use this artist as inspiration 'NYC' . Also, the way that the artist decorates her background with small details similar to what I like to add into my own work however I could experiment with using different shapes and colours in a way similar to Kim to experiment and develop my style further. I like this image as its very symmetrical and professionally composed together. For example...

I spy - Neil Mendoza - " This piece questions the role that all of the little gadgets we use from day to day play in our lives. Frequently, they are a form of escapism, used to avoid thinking and interacting by staring into the information space. Often they are being used as a tool to spy on us and gather data about our habits. For once, they are “consciously” staring back at us, moving and following viewers around. A computer uses a Kinect 3D camera to track people’s locations and then sends them to the motors that control the orientations of the screens within the mobile....
